Support Bree and Celeste's Medical Journey

Donation protected
On Dec 20 around midnight, Bree’s water broke and she waited it out at home to see if labor would progress because the original plan was to have an at home birth.
The next day, Dec 21 early in the morning, after no clear sign of labor progressing, we decided it would be best to go to the hospital due to risk of infection.

When we got to the hospital, labor started picking up and Bree ended up giving birth to our daughter, Celeste, that afternoon. After giving birth, Bree started hemorrhaging and the doctors quickly found a hematoma that was causing the bleeding and were able to stop the bleeding. Soon after this, the nurses took Celeste to do their measurements etc and found that she had low blood sugar levels.

We got to our recovery room and Celeste was taken to the nicu shortly after we got there because she couldn’t maintain her blood sugar levels on her own.
Bree stayed at the hospital for two days where she received two blood transfusions, and luckily Alec was able to continue visiting Celeste to keep her company.

After discharging from the hospital on Dec 24 at midnight, a few hours later Bree got really sick and was throwing up, fevering, chills, etc. She was taken to the emergency room where they ruled out any real concerns and treated her for a UTI.

Over the next two weeks Bree was able to recover and gain her strength back, and start visiting the nicu with Alec every day to see Celeste.
Celeste struggled to maintain her sugars at first but was able to stabilize them on her own after awhile.
We were getting very hopeful and to the end of the nicu stay when Celeste suddenly started getting bloody stools. After finding an infection in her colon she had to be put on an antibiotic for 7 days where she wasn’t allowed to eat and was only given nutrition through an IV. During this time, the doctors at Layton hospital were trying to insert a PICC line into her to avoid having to keep poking her every 24-48 hrs due to how quickly normal IVs go bad. They had two different professionals try inserting the PICC line over the course of two days and neither of them were successful.

On January 5, Bree woke up early in the morning and was hemorrhaging. Luckily the bleeding stopped on its own and her parents drove us to the ER. They found that she had retained placenta and would have to undergo an emergency surgery to remove it. The surgery was successful and the Doctor is confident that he got it all out. After the surgery, Bree was given an iron IV and later suffered a bad allergic reaction to it. The nurses on call were amazing and we are so glad they were able to act fast to help control the situation.

As this was all happening, we had NICU nurses in our room trying to talk to us and tell us that Celeste would be life flighted to Primary Childrens. Luckily Brees parents were there because we were overwhelmed by everything going on. We told the nicu nurses to talk to them and have them make the decisions. Luckily Brees dad was able to fly with Celeste to Primary’s while Alec stayed to take care of Bree.

Celeste is now getting exceptional care and is now eating. She’s making great progress so far and we’re hoping that we get to bring her home soon!!
Bree is also doing way better, and is getting stronger every day as she rebuilds her strength.

With all that being said we have found ourselves in a very humbling situation.

With the medical bills piling up and no current end in sight, we are asking for donations if you are able and feel it in your heart to do so. Or even prayers that this financial load of all the emergency visits can be lessened for us. Some people have been asking about venmo. Bree’s venmo is @breevander if you prefer to donate that way.

We appreciate every text, phone call, and dinner that we have received over these last three weeks. It’s meant more to us than you know and we could never express how grateful we are for it.

With love,
The Motleys
