Support Bre'Azia's Journey to Recovery

Donation protected
Hi, My name is Anquinette Yarbrough. I created this GoFund Me page to help with the cost of traveling, medical and unforseen expenses that we may incur throughout the next couple of months while attempting to get my daughter Bre'Azia treatment to help with her brain injury.

As many people may already know Bre'Azia's story for those who don't... here is a quick run down:

Bre'Azia is 13 years old Type 1 diabetic. On August 29, 2023 some time throughout the night/early morning her blood sugar dropped extremely low while she was sleeping. It stayed low for a significant amount of time (still unknown) which caused her to slip into a diabetic coma. In the midst of her being in the coma she lost oxygen to her brain and had a stroke. Once she came out of the coma she had to relearn how to eat, talk, walk, basically learn everything all over again . After a long hospital/inpatient therapy stay she was discharged on Halloween 2023.

Since being discharged from the inpatient rehab center back in October she has been hospitalized several times for mental health issues. She was able to return to school during her 8th grade year in January 2024. Between that time and the end of the school year she was suspended more than 8 times and had two sets of criminal charges filed against her by the school system due to her aggressive behavior caused by her brain injury. At one point I was threatened that if I did not take her to the mental hospital that Child Protective Services would even be contacted. Funny part about it is that although I did as they requested CPS still came to my door and went to my kids school to question them as if I did something wrong.

I feel like I've exhausted all avenues here in Louisville with trying to get my daughter help. Her behavior and aggression has gotten worse and she really needs intense inpatient treatment that is specific for her brain injury. The most recent episode happened on May 6th, 2024. Bre'Azia set fire to the curtains and paper towel roll in our bathroom. As a result, I was forced to return her to the hospital. It was agreed upon between myself and the case manager there that she needed to be transferred from the mental hospital to an inpatient facility that can better meet her needs. After staff sent mass referrals all over the state (they claimed) in hopes that one would accept her. We got all denials due to her either being a diabetic, too aggressive, or because of her brain injury. I was told that she would need to be discharged at that point because they were only "holding" her to send her off but since they had no facilities in KY would take her I asked about sending her out of state. That was an option I was enlightened on in the beginning. They later got back with me and mentioned that my best bet would be to "temporarily" terminate my parental rights and give the state guardianship over Bre'Azia in order to speed things up and also in order for them to be able to reach out to facilities out of the state. I refused!

I would never!! When I told them no they basically smiled in my face and told me that she would be back. Not over my dead body! I feel like these people are using my daughters behavior against us - saying she's unsafe and we need to get her help ASAP before they try to be sneaky and take her from me and just heavily medicate her and send her away.

So this is why I need your help. My prn job is barely bringing in enough to cover our bills. I only work when they call me if work is available and it's been over a week since I've received a call. Now that Bre'Azia will be returning home this week I will be unable to work unless I find relief anyway and it seems like the ones that would relieve me are scared at this point. Soooo it's time to go.

I will need your help with:
Travel expenses - gas and possibly a rental car
Uncovered medical expenses
Hotel/lodging possibly temporarily housing
Food.

Even if you can't help please share this and say a prayer for us. We greatly appreciate you!
