I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share an update regarding my gender affirming care journey. Over the past several months, I have been preparing for my upcoming procedures, and two months ago, I was scheduled to receive Top Surgery.

CIGNA initially approved my capsulectomy and breast augmentation surgery on March 11, 2026. However, on June 25th, less than 24 hours before my scheduled surgery, they unexpectedly denied the procedure. This was very upsetting and distressing for me, especially considering the high health risks involved.

I received a call from my doctor’s office informing me that CIGNA denied the insertion of new implants and the proceeding with the capsulectomy. I was quite surprised by this development, as I felt there was a lack of clear communication and respect from CIGNA. They had over four months to review and approve my surgery after initially granting approval, yet they chose to deny me access just a day before my procedure.

This situation has placed me at significant health and financial risk. For me, as a trans woman of color, this is not just a matter of aesthetics but an essential part of my health and well being. The recent setback has been particularly challenging given my current financial circumstances, which have been tight, especially with the additional costs and time off I had to take for my preparation.

Despite these obstacles, I am grateful to share that I have filed multiple appeals, and recently, my last appeal was approved. I am thrilled to confirm that my surgery is now scheduled for September 14th, 2026.

As I prepare for this important milestone, I will need some financial support for post surgery care, including rent, food, and other daily needs during my recovery. The past few weeks have been financially difficult for me, especially after the June delay, and I am gradually working to regain stability.
