Brayden Bond is a smiley, blue-eyed second grader who loves fishing, riding his bike, and gardening with his sister Kelly. Despite his joyful spirit, Brayden faces a rare and life-threatening condition called Wyburn-Mason Syndrome, a non-hereditary congenital disease that causes abnormal blood vessels to develop. Fewer than 100 cases have been reported since its discovery in 1937, and Brayden’s case is especially complex—he has four abnormal vessels: two in his brain, one in his cheek, and one in his retina. These can rupture, bleed, clot, and result in seizures, strokes, or aneurysms at any time.
Brayden’s journey has taken him and his family to Boston for urgent, ongoing treatment. Recently, doctors discovered an aneurysm that required an emergency embolization procedure to slow blood flow and reduce the risk of rupture. Brayden will return to Boston for radiation treatment in early October, and his care will require many more trips and long stays in the months ahead. The full results of treatment may take years, and in the meantime, Brayden’s family must monitor his condition closely and continue to hope for the best.
While medical insurance helps cover the cost of Brayden’s treatments, the travel, lodging, and food expenses for these frequent trips are overwhelming. Support from friends, family, and the community will help ensure Brayden can access the care he needs and give his family the strength to keep fighting for his future. Any help is deeply appreciated, and keeping Brayden in your thoughts and prayers means the world to his loved ones.
