At 31, Brandyn has been in the hospital as a regular staple. He is stoic and knowledgeable in the settings of this situation, below is a brief history of he continual strength as it grows in faith and as a survivor with each stay.
Phillipianes 4:13
I can do all things through Christ, which strengthens me.
A month before he turned 3 in 1996, he was diagnosed with an astrocytoma brain tumor that was blocking the ventricles above brain stem. He had an immediate VP shunt placed so that his brain wouldn't rupture. The brain tumor was removed three days later. With regular MRI's of the brain, a scan in October of 1996 showed some new growth, then upon doing a full spinal MRI they discovered 11 small tumors along his spinal column and a larger one at base of spine (The size of a Walnut). After removal, we then decided that he would need chemo. He began that journey in October 1996. The placed a broviac cathetar (then Brandyn named that catheter Truck Black Broviac- he was 3 and loved trucks and Clint Black). Chemo finished in February 1998, then he began Radiation therapy thru April 1998 completing that treatment. Then in 2006, with regular scans, it showed a new tumor in a different area (between the hemispheres of brain, by optic nerve). By this time he had also started testosterone therapy and growth hormone therapy. The tumor proved to be the same, a benign astrocytoma. We continued to monitor with no issues. Then along comes April of 2012, he had a mini stroke in same area of brain (brain stem area). We were finally released to go home a couple weeks later(all his visits were about 2 weeks). He had at home, visits for therapy and upon completion he was back to working for his spending money and such as a 19 year old kid. He went off to Phoenix to MMI to work on Harleys- he has a degree in that and would be possibly working in that field as he loves engines and how things work. However, the stroke, doing what strokes do weakened his right side, so he is unable to lift and move bikes. Working with Cupertino and learning the electrical field has since become what he enjoys. He enjoys working with the folks there. Then on September 2nd, he had the ischemic stroke in the Pons regions of brain, due to the weakening of the vessels by the radiation therapy 28 years ago. This stroke has affected his ability to swallow, speak and his left side does not work. We are looking at a tough road to get him back to good.
