I am writing this on behalf of my dear friend Virginia and her son, Brandon, during one of the most difficult seasons their family has ever faced. On May 4, Brandon suffered a severe asthma-related medical emergency that quickly became life-threatening. After struggling to breathe and finding that his medication was not helping, he asked his grandfather to call 911. Moments later, Brandon collapsed before emergency responders were able to stabilize him. After losing his pulse, paramedics worked to revive him and were thankfully able to restore it before rushing him to Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center, where he was admitted into the ICU.

Since being hospitalized, Brandon has faced several serious complications, including pneumonia and oxygen-related brain injury caused by the lack of oxygen during the event. While there have been encouraging signs in some of his medical numbers, he remains on a ventilator as doctors carefully monitor his lungs and neurological condition. The full extent of his recovery is still unknown, and each day brings new challenges, decisions, and hope for progress.

Brandon is the kind of person who leaves an impact on the people around him. He has a huge heart, loves spending time with friends and family, enjoys playing DND and video games, and is always willing to help others however he can. He is deeply loved by so many people. As Virginia stays by her son’s side through this unimaginable time, we are asking for support to help ease the financial burden of medical expenses, lost income, and the many unexpected costs that come with a long ICU stay and recovery journey.
