Thank you to all who donated & offered support during this journey! Brandon is grateful beyond words - we appreciate you all!
Hello all, This December, Brandon experienced a sudden onset of headaches severe enough to go to the ER in an ambulance. From there, the weeks of ER visits and doctor visits looking for relief dragged on.
Thankfully, he was able to see a great neurologist in Dartmouth who began to order testing to try to find the root of the issue. He made it to the first test, an MRI, which began the path to where he ended up. After another painful visit to the ER for relief - which in itself was a horrible experience - his neurologist decided to send him to MGH for inpatient care.
Days of testing - a 6-day wait for a lumbar puncture and radiology - injecting dye along his spine to look for a spinal cerebral fluid leak.
6 days of waiting, laying flat due to the often unbearable head pressure. It was like torture passing the minutes, hours, and days waiting for that test. It took what was left of the wind in his sail away.
Finally, the day came and sadly nothing was found. With the surgeon unhappy with less than clear and very grainy pictures, the surgeon chose another try at imaging. Repeat again the next day!
Bingo! He found it, and as he thought, there was a tear in his spinal fluid sac - leaking out and creating the pain and pressure.
Well, here we are now preparing for surgery.
Brandon has missed work and his income. This will continue while he faces his road to recovery.
If you know Brandon, he is the one who will give his last dollar to make someone happy. He gives his time and heart to help others, especially those with developmental differences.
He loves his town and its natural resources and fiercely desires others to respect it as well. You may have seen him this summer at the fairs at Grimshaw Park - educating children and adults about wetlands and conservation efforts. Raising awareness and bringing smiles to the children with little swag items he chose to fund.
His love of our harbor, shoreline, and the preservation of our community's shellfishing beds is deep in his soul, as it was for his family generations before him.
Now he needs some help and refuses to take but always gives. He will be down recovering and already had been down prior to the diagnosis. Surgery is happening and recovery is a bit as well.
Sadly with no income & being a single person - he still has responsibilities to keep up with financially. Along with day to day expenses.
If anyone can lend a hand and offer whatever works for you, it would be appreciated. Please help him out. Donate and share this GoFundMe. Keep him in a positive light so he can mend and return to what he loves, helping, educating, sharing, and being outdoors.
Thank you to those who have traveled this journey by his side.
