Hey guys,
My name is Stephanie Whitmire. I am Brandi Britt's one and only little sister! Maybe you know her story, maybe you don't, but if you've ever crossed paths with my big sister, I'd be willing to bet she blessed you! She's spent her whole life being everybody's cheerleader, the life of the party. She's devoted the past 25 years pouring her heart and soul into patients in every setting from nursing homes to clinics to emergency rooms and more. She's always going out of her way to help people!
Well, she needs our help now! Brandi experienced the unthinkable on Christmas 2015 when she had a spontaneous vertebral artery dissection that resulted in a brainstem stroke. It was believed, at that time, that it was due to heavy weight lifting in the gym. For those of you non-medical folks, she should've died. People don't just walk away from brainstem strokes. BUT GOD! She recovered from that and learned to live life wide open again. We're forever thankful for His mercy!
A few weeks ago, her world stopped again. We ended up back in the ER with neurological symptoms, but this time she'd had a spontaneous carotid artery dissection that resulted in TWO strokes. The resulting transfer and ICU stay will bring mounds of medical bills. Even more, we know now that she has some predisposition to arterial dissection and it doesn't just happen in the gym (she hasn't lifted weights since 2015). What this means for her is that she will be on lifelong weight restrictions. Did I mention that she's an ER nurse? That she LOVES emergency nursing? Never mind her love of yard work. She was advised by the neurologist that she would be off work completely for 4 weeks, MINIMUM, and we still don't really know how this will all play out. Her and Mark were blessed to be able to purchase their forever home out in the country near us, but now the uncertainty of her future weighs heavily on them both. We're a praying family. Always have been. And today, as she wept on the phone to me, I realized, it's OK to ask for help! So this is me, asking for help for my sister. Every penny will go straight to her for medical bills and to meet household expenses until she can safely work or find something else. Our family covets your prayers and sincerely appreciates your support!
