On September 7th, my son Brady Stang was in a traumatic car accident while on vacation in Utah. The severity of his injuries required him to be life flighted by helicopter to a Level 2 Trauma hospital over 100 miles away. After the first two surgeries to repair the multiple broken bones in his legs Brady developed a rare and dangerous neurological complication called Fat Embolism Syndrome. This is the release of fat cells from the bone marrow in his multiple long bone leg fractures which traveled to his brain putting him into a coma. After two weeks of ICU care in Utah Brady was stable enough to be flown back to his home state of Ohio by an air ambulance jet so he can be near his family, his fiancé Katie and her wonderful family while he recovers in an LTACH facility in Cleveland. There is no surgery or medication that will bring him out of his coma. Only time will cure him with the hopeful dissipation of the fatty emboli.

We are incredibly blessed that we still have Brady with us. The road to recovery will be long and challenging. Doctors have projected that Brady will be unable to return to work for many months as they focus on healing and rehabilitation. During this recovery time Brady will incur tremendous medical debt while still needing to address everyday expenses like his mortgage, car payment, utility bills, groceries, etc.
