I’m starting this campaign for my husband, Brad. We all know that he goes out of his way to help every other person, and now he needs OUR help!
In 2021, shortly after Shawna, Landyns mom, passed away, Brad was diagnosed with a colorectal tumor. We had just begun our own journey healing and processing that loss, and big change in our life, we surely did not expect this detour. We decided to keep this diagnosis to ourselves until we knew more, and were ready to have some difficult discussions. Once that time came we truly realized how blessed we are to have some great family, friends and co-parents by our side.
Brad has undergone months and months of treatments, and while they may have given some temporary help, more treatment is no longer on the table. In the last few months a new symptom has occurred, pain, and his pain is debilitating. With this new issue we knew we had to find a solution. We felt like we exhausted the medical resources available at the Michigan hospitals so we then went and talked with City of Hope and eventually reached out to the Mayo Clinic. He had his initial appointments there in May, and they decided on his best path to surgery and survival. This includes 3 weeks of post op radiation, intraoperative radiation, a very extensive 10-12 hour surgery and post-op recovery (long enough to be ready to travel home). We have no exact time frame, but the plan is approximately 2 months for us to be in Minnesota this summer.
In the beginning Brad was able to work, while just taking some much needed days off. Unfortunately that changed and he has not been able to work for the past few months, and with a lot of unknowns on when he will return to work, along with the lengthy travel away from home, we need help. Brad has worked so hard to start his own business and provide a good life for myself, Lucas and Landyn, I just want to eliminate some of the financial stress for us and our family. We have accumulated a lot of medical debt, and already used our savings for our daily living expenses. I know everyone has their own personal struggles, and we hate to even ask for help, but at this point we genuinely need it.
As you can imagine, he is overwhelmed and often not feeling well. If you have messages, cards, or want updates please contact me or visit his Caring Bridge page where I will update on his progress as well (and you can also send messages there). Thank you in advance for all of your love, support, and positive thinking!
