Help My Dad, Brad Davidson, Recover from a Life-Saving Battle
Hi! My name is Jill, my parents Brad and Sandy could really use some help, and while they would never ask for it themselves, I know how much they both mean to so many people, especially in the Jerome community. My parents do not know I am doing this, and while my mom might see this being shared, I'd like to keep it as much of a secret as possible!
On August 3rd, my dad, Brad Davidson, experienced a terrifying health emergency that changed our lives forever. Suddenly and without warning, he stopped breathing. My mom, Sandy Davidson, had to call 911, and emergency services worked tirelessly for over an hour to stabilize him before transporting him to the hospital in Lincoln City. We later learned that he had gone into cardiac arrest, and during the ambulance ride, he suffered a second cardiac arrest.
Once at the hospital, the medical team decided he needed to be transferred to a larger hospital in Salem with specialized care. That night, he was life-flighted to Salem, where he faced another cardiac arrest. When he arrived at the hospital in Salem, they put him into a medically induced coma and used therapeutic hypothermia to lower his body temp to protect his organs, they kept him like that for 24 hours. After the 24 hour period they began to warm him up slowly, once he was warmed up again, doctors began the process of waking him, we really didn't know what to expect, even the doctors couldn't tell us if he'd wake up, and if he did whether he would be the same, it was a week filled with a lot of ups and downs but he was able to wake up and begin to get his strength back.
During this whole ordeal, he had to undergo multiple rounds of CPR, which left him with a broken sternum and three broken ribs. He received a pacemaker and defibrillator to help his heart. Though his doctors still don’t know the exact cause, he has been diagnosed with heart failure and is now on several medications. According to his cardiologist, if he doesn't take these medications, he may only have 3-5 years left. Luckily, he is now home, and we are incredibly grateful he's alive—his doctors say he’s very lucky to be here today.
Seeing my mom live through this trauma has been heartbreaking. While she focuses on caring for my dad and adjusting to their new normal, they are facing a significant financial burden. The medical bills from ambulance, life flight, and hospital stays are overwhelming. Additionally, the new medications prescribed are not covered by insurance and will cost over $1,000 per month for at least the first year.
My parents are retired and living on a fixed income, making this financial strain incredibly difficult. I'm hoping to help them cover medical bills and medication costs so they can focus on healing and reclaiming their lives. My parents have worked very hard their entire lives, and moved to the Oregon Coast to be able to enjoy their retirement and having to watch as literally everything is being taken from them and not being able to help is very hard.
Any support you can provide—whether donations or sharing this story—means the world to us. Thank you for helping us through this difficult time.
With gratitude,
Jill
