Support Bow's Surgery and Recovery

Over memorial weekend while camping in Remus, Bow and our other dog Sloane (still missing) dug a hole under the fence we had put up and escaped, we searched, but with so much land around us, we could not find them. Luckily, Bow had an air tag on his collar and it pinged roughly 5 miles away at about 3am the following morning and then again at an animal rescue a little while later. We arrived at the rescue when they opened at 10am and they gave us the news that Bow had been picked up in the middle of the road by a very kind lady and her husband, which they then took him to the Animal Rescue Coalition in Big Rapids. The rescue then informed us that Bow was by himself when he was found, (no Sloane) and he was injured. He was transferred to the emergency vet in Grand Rapids and they said it looked like he had been hit by a car, he suffered 3 breaks in his pelvis and his hip is completely out of socket.

After Bow was transferred, he had a surgery to put his hip back into the socket. There was a 50/50 chance the surgery would be successful and his hip would stay in socket, but unfortunately it did not.

Everything the emergency vet had done this far cost $3,000 that’s including the surgery, fluids, medications etc. Since the first surgery was unsuccessful, he will have to have another surgery next week. This surgery is a femoral head ostectomy (FHO). With this procedure, a surgeon will remove the femoral head, leaving the hip socket empty. The leg muscles will initially hold the femur in place, and scar tissue will develop into a "false joint" that will cushion the femur and acetabulum. This surgery will be another $5,000.

I couldn’t bring myself to put him down. Bow is my best friend and a healthy, loving and energetic 3 year old beagle who loves to chase rabbits! With this surgery and 2 months of cage recovery bow can make a 100% recovery!

The cost of Bow’s treatment was unexpected and has been overwhelming. Between the surgery, medications, and aftercare, the expenses have added up to roughly $8,000. I want to make sure Bow will receive the best possible care so he can return to himself and doing what he loves. Any support will go directly toward covering his medical expenses and making sure he has everything he needs for a full recovery. Thank you for considering helping Bow and being part of his healing journey!
