I am Bowen's grandma

Over the past few weeks, our families' lives have been turned upside down. What started as Bowen struggling with constipation and difficulty peeing led to two emergency visits. During the second visit, the medical team emptied his bladder and discovered something no parent ever expects to hear a mass on his prostate.

Bowen was immediately flown to BC Children’s Hospital, where further testing confirmed he has rhabdomyosarcoma with regional lymph node involvement, a rare and aggressive childhood cancer.

He is only 4 years old.

Alisha and Lorne have been at the Children’s Hospital with Bowen for the past three weeks as he undergoes extensive testing and begins treatment. Bowen will require 43 weeks of chemotherapy and possibly radiation. Alisha will be staying at the hospital with him for a minimum of three months while Lorne travels back and forth to care for their other children and maintain some sense of normalcy at home.

This journey is going to be long, emotional, and incredibly challenging. The financial impact is already significant travel costs, meals, time away from work, and all the unexpected expenses that come with having a child in long-term cancer treatment.
