**UPDATE**
We truly appreciate all the support we have received from this amazing community! We met and exceeded our goal and you all made this unfortunate situation nothing more than a bump in the road for us. Now we can get back to focusing on putting on the best show and making the best music that we can. We have ended donations on this page as we have received all that we need. If you still want to make a donation, please make it to your local food bank and tell em Boot Juice sent you! Thanks so much, love to you all.

After a great couple of shows in Oregon, we got a hotel in Salem on our way down I-5 last night, March 1st. We unfortunately had a backpack containing Jess's laptop as well as about $1500 in cash stolen out of the van.
Here's what happened:
We got to the hotel at about 1 am after our show. The band hung out in the hotel for about an hour and went to bed around 2. Jess and Connor slept in the bed in the van so that someone would be with all of our gear and there would be more space in the hotel rooms. At almost exactly 4 am, Jess and Connor woke up when someone opened the driver door and the interior van lights turned on. They yelled at the figure, realizing it wasn't someone in the band and a man in a black hoodie with the hood up slammed the door and sprinted away out of the parking lot. After a few chaotic seconds, they saw that the backpack was gone and ran into the parking lot to try and follow him, but we're unable to catch him. Simultaneously a dark grey or black sedan pulled away, suspicious? Maybe, maybe not but either way he was long gone.
We called the police to file a report and took inventory of what was in the backpack. Jess's Laptop with a lot of sensitive info, as well as the band's pay for the last two shows and some of her personal belongings were all in the pack. Most of the pay was in the form of a check and has been safely voided, but there was $1560 that had been paid in cash inside the bag. That money was intended to cover our expenses for the trip and to be paid to our band members.
Mistakes were made. We quickly realized that the driver door had been left unlocked and the backpack would have been in view from the window. We had gotten in late after a long day of travel and a show and were tired. We went to sleep and neglected to check that the door was locked. Education is never free.
In total, we estimate the losses to be about $3500. In addition to the immediate loss, Jess uses her laptop for design and illustration and needs to replace the computer immediately to be able to do her work. It's a fairly expensive computer because it has to be fast enough to run the large programs needed for design work.
Stuff is stuff and we are mostly thankful to be okay and have all our our equipment safely in our possession.
