Support Bob's Journey Back to Iowa

Donation protected
On Sunday, April 28, Bob Hainey began his journey home from Mission, Texas to Vinton, Iowa. Five hours into the trip, he experienced a medical emergency and was admitted to a hospital in San Antonio. After 2 1/2 weeks, the medical professionals still do not have a prognosis or solution and have indicated they have exhausted their resources. Hospice care has been mentioned, but the family wants him close to home.

The family has ensured that at least two members are always by his side, despite the 17-hour distance making it a challenging journey. They have already spent a significant amount on flights, hotels, and car rental to be with Bob. Taking the stress of funding the transport away, could bring some relief, to Bob and Nancy.

Bob wishes to be home, surrounded by his family and friends, receiving continued care in familiar surroundings. His family is committed to supporting him, just as he has supported others during their times of need with his visits and generous spirit.

Bob is currently unable to sit up in a car or airplane, cannot stand, and needs oxygen and constant monitoring. Given these circumstances, his family wants to ensure his comfort and proximity to loved ones. They initially planned to drive or fly him home, but these plans were not feasible.

To ensure Bob's safety and medical needs during the journey, the family is exploring options for medical transport with trained staff. They are trying to arrange for medical transport from San Antonio to Iowa City, Iowa, which is a 17-hour trip. They have found a solution with ACC Medlink, but it is costly at $10,000. While the expense is significant, the peace of mind and the opportunity for Bob to be close to his loved ones during this time are invaluable.

Bob, 76, is a deeply cherished father of four (Tim, Tammy, Tiffany, and Tina) and grandfather of five (Ella, Carter, Violet, Camden, and Kai). Brother, Uncle and Friend. He worked at Quaker Oats for 46 years and is known for his generosity and love for others. Friends recall how he assisted them financially, brought food, took families on trips, and gave "love gifts," often leaving Quaker Oats products on single moms' porches. Bob is a big-hearted jokester with a contagious laugh, especially at his own jokes. He has a deep faith, loves Ford Mustangs and the Iowa Hawkeyes, and cherished traveling with his family. He looks forward to the time when he is healthy and young again.

Prayers and love are greatly appreciated.
