--12/16/25 update--
For those of you who don't already know, my dad, Bob Lackey, passed away on Tuesday, December 9th. He passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his family (and accompanied by tunes from his curated "Old Fart" playlist).
My dad's wish all along was to be at home at the end of his life, and this wouldn't have been possible without the donations that you all generously contributed to this fund. For this, my family and I are eternally grateful.
If you knew my dad, you know what a special guy he was. He was the best dad and best friend I could have ever asked for. We are all going to miss him so much.

For nearly two years, our dad, Bob Lackey, has been battling ALS , a truly terrible and cruel neurological disease for which there is no cure. During this time he’s been in and out of various hospitals and his condition has dramatically declined. We’ve watched our dad no longer be able to ride his bike (his true joy), to drive, to walk, to stand on his own, to hug his grandchildren, to feed himself, to speak, and to breathe without the help of a ventilator. He’s endured countless infusions, procedures and surgeries, none of which has done much to slow down the rapid progression of this awful disease. He’s spent more time during 2025 in the hospital than out of it.
Not only has the progression of his disease been difficult on him physically and for all of us emotionally, but there has also been a significant financial burden on my parents—two retirees—as well. Thanks to insurance maximums and hospital red tape, he has now shifted to at-home care, with our 75-year-old mom (a literal superwoman) assuming the role of primary caretaker. Our dad now requires the kind of costly, round-the-clock care and health equipment that isn’t fully covered by his health insurance.
Donating to this fund will help pay for at-home nursing care, equipment, and daily living expenses for my parents—two exceptionally good people who have done so much help to others. My family never expected to be put into this position and we aren’t very good at the asking for help thing, but just know that every donation will be greatly appreciated.
