Please help support this family as they are faced with cancer. RADIATION therapy starts Monday, 10/27/25.

After three surgeries, several tests, scans, multiple blood draws, and a lot of pain, Bobby (Joy's husband and my brother-in-law) was finally given a diagnosis of Stage 3 tongue and throat cancer that spread to lymph nodes in his neck. As you can imagine, this was a total shock!

It started in 2024 as a sore throat and earache which lasted for many months. Three different doctors misdiagnosed what was going on. Then, by the grace of God, a cardiac neck ultrasound caught the swollen lymph nodes which led to the diagnosis and the beginning of a difficult journey and fight.

After healing from the removal of part of his tongue, roof of mouth (soft palette) and tonsil, Bobby is now facing the second part of this voyage, and it’s going to be a tough one.

He is preparing for 30 rounds of radiation (five days on, 2 days off) more time off work, tests, scans and medications. Even for this military veteran, this is very overwhelming and scary; so let’s all work together to support them.

Prayers are needed for God to prepare Bobby and Joy for this storm, for healing, strength, comfort, hope, protection, patience, love, peace, and for their faith to grow through this. Pray for pain management, wisdom, rest, reliance on the Lord, restorative sleep, grace shown to one another, protection over Joy’s body and that her autoimmune disease doesn’t go into a flare up so that she is strong and able to care for Bobby’s needs. Pray for endurance and perseverance, and for God to meet the financial needs of this family while Bobby has had to be off work since Sept 18th and will continue treatments without being able to work until January to fight this cancer.

Joy will also be taking more unpaid time off over the next few months as Bobby will need her help for many steps of the way.

These next few months will be very difficult for Bobby as he endures blisters and painful ulcers throughout his mouth and throat. Burns on both sides of his face and neck will make swallowing the ultimate challenge! Oncology said this is the worst and most painful place in the body to go through radiation because of the side effects.

Prayers are needed for Bobby to keep up with good nutrition to have strength to fight through this. Also, please pray for God to protect his head, neck, ears, organs, jaw bone and teeth from damage. Pray for him to keep his eyes on Jesus as he struggles through each day.

Let’s lift him up with the POWER of prayer and bear these burdens with him.
