Support Bobby Hinson's Fight Against Cancer
Donation protected
I am DIane Petteway, a colleague of Bobby Hinson's. My husband, Bernie and I have been blessed with the privilege of making music with Bobby over many years. I have known Bobby as a fellow music teacher, a pit musician in many musical theater productions, and a proud native of Scotland County! Bobby is known to many as "Mr. Hinson"--he served as a Wake County band director for 29 years, teaching at both Salem Middle School and East Millbrook Middle School.
Bobby was hospitalized and diagnosed at the end of July, with Stage IV Neuroendocrine Tumors of the Pancreas, which has already metastasized to the liver. He has a great medical team at Duke and has begun SSA hormone therapy treatments. He is battling a lot of side effects which his medical team is trying to control with medication.
Bobby is the kind of guy who takes care of his own business. He has supported his family well on a public school teachers' salary, and he and Claudia had planned carefully for how these years of Bobby's retirement would go. This diagnosis was not a part of the plan, to say the least. It is surprising, challenging, frightening---and yet Bobby is choosing to count his blessings, never complaining, never asking for anyone to do anything for him. If you know him, you understand.
In this unexpected season, one way that those of us who love Bobby and his family can support him is by contributing to a fund that will cover the loss of income, medical expenses that are not covered by insurance, and the expenses that will be incurred as Bobby faces the fight of his life.
Thank you for wrapping the Hinson family with your prayers and your love at this time of uncertainty and change. All donations will go directly to Bobby and will be immediately accessible as he plans for the next steps in his medical journey.
