Update: Still Holding On – One Day at a Time
Since March 1st, Bobbi, her son Zak, and their two dogs have been navigating the heartbreaking and exhausting reality of homelessness. Despite everything, Bobbi has remained focused on keeping Zak’s life as stable as possible—ensuring he finishes his final year of elementary school with his friends, attending all the important milestones and events that make childhood feel normal.
With the help of domestic violence support organizations, Bobbi has patched together temporary resources, always prioritizing her son’s emotional well-being and safety. Unfortunately, not every family member could weather the storm. Their beloved 14-year-old dog, Daisy, declined rapidly under the stress of these upheavals and heartbreakingly had to be put down last week. Daisy was more than a pet—she was family, protection, and emotional support. Her loss has left a deep void.
Now, Bobbi is urgently seeking a foster home for Poppy, their Great Dane, who is also an emotional support animal but too large to safely accommodate in the car they’re living in. Between Poppy (170 lbs), Zak (now nearly 5'4"), and their essentials, the car is beyond capacity—especially with the summer heat approaching and the vehicle in desperate need of repairs (including an oil change and windshield damage from winter storms).
Shelters are full, waitlists long, and resources scarce. Even “safe parking” programs are difficult to access and require persistence every single day—often with little to no hopeful news. Most shelters prioritize larger families, and the estimated wait for a proper placement is 6–8 months.
To make matters worse, Bobbi is again facing ongoing legal harassment and court proceedings—this time without legal counsel, as she has exhausted all support after five years of fighting to protect her and Zak's future. The emotional toll is heavy, and yet she continues to show up every day—for Zak.
Though the original goal of saving her home wasn't possible, Bobbi has stretched every dollar to protect her son and her animals. Now, the immediate goal is simple but vital: help them make it to the end of the school year without trauma, without losing what little stability remains.
Here’s how you can help:
Cover the cost of temporary accommodations, which now require payment in advance.
Help fund basic car repairs so they can remain mobile and safe.
Support the transition of Poppy to a foster or boarding situation.
Allow Bobbi a chance to accept potential employment opportunities, which remain out of reach without reliable shelter or transportation.
Bobbi continues to carry the weight of this journey with grace and grit, but tomorrow is more urgent than ever. Even sharing this update is hard for her—she struggles with feeling worthy of help, after years of surviving so much.
Still, she holds on—for Zak. He’s finishing school with a smile, unaware of just how precarious their situation is. That’s a testament to Bobbi’s strength and love.
