What began as small memory lapses has turned into a life-altering battle.
In May, Bob started forgetting things. He’d misplace his phone, leave for work without his laptop, and even forget to pick up his beloved dog Beasley from daycare. As summer progressed, his partner Susan noticed more troubling changes. Bob was exhausted, moving slowly, and struggling to get through the day. Something was clearly wrong.
Then, on July 1st, Bob was let go from the job he loved due to his declining abilities. Just three days later, he became completely disoriented, unable to remember where he was. Susan rushed him to the ER, where they received devastating news: Bob had a brain tumor. He was diagnosed with stage 3 astrocytoma, a serious form of brain cancer.
Bob underwent surgery within days. Doctors removed 80 percent of the tumor. While he is recovering, his fight is far from over. He now faces seven weeks of daily proton radiation therapy at Northwestern Medicine Proton Center. The road ahead remains long and uncertain.
Bob and Susan are staying strong and hopeful, but the financial burden is immense. Without his job and the health insurance it provided, Bob is struggling to keep up with the costs of treatment, medication, and daily living expenses. He needs help maintaining insurance coverage, paying for out-of-pocket medical costs, and, most importantly, staying connected to the people who matter most. Bob’s daughter, Allie, is currently attending college out of state. One of his greatest wishes is to be able to travel to see her and stay involved in her life despite the challenges he’s facing.
