Support Roland "Bo" Alejo's Medical Battle
Donation protected
Hi everyone! My name is Gwen, and I am the younger sister of Roland "Bo" Alejo. I am reaching out on behalf of my brother to ask for your support during this difficult time.
7/16/24 - Bo needed blood tests completed for a routine checkup
7/17/24 - The doctor called us with critical lab values and told us to go to the emergency room for further treatment. (Potassium level was a 7; complications can be cardiac arrest) Bo was admitted for observation and treatment
7/19/24 - Bo was diagnosed with lung cancer and kidney cancer.
7/20/24 - The kidney cancer was causing a blockage; therefore, a stent was placed in the ureters to allow urine to drain. The lung cancer was causing a buildup of fluid in the lining of his lungs, so a pleural effusion drain was placed
7/17/24 to 8/6/24 - Bo was finally discharged from the hospital, under the condition of WEEKLY doctor appointments and blood draws
Bo had numerous blood transfusions during this time, infusion treatments every 6 weeks, stent replacement twice, and multiple re-visits to the emergency department for abnormal blood test results
5/20/25 - after his blood draw on 5/19/25, his doctor called us to go to the emergency department because Bo's liver numbers were "off the charts" ... during the emergency department visit, a CT scan of Bo's abdomen was completed, which showed a large stone in his bile duct.
5/21/25 - The surgeons scheduled the removal of the stone in his bile duct
5/26/25 - After the surgery, he was discharged from the hospital and transferred to Pearl City Care Home for rehab and physical therapy
5/31/25 - We were able to take him home after 5 days of being at Pearl City Care Home ... during the late hours that same night, Bo fell twice at home trying to get to the bathroom
6/1/25 - In the afternoon, Bo woke up from his nap, and his speech was slurred, and he was not receptive to any questions when we tried to ask him. We took him to the emergency department, and they did a CT scan of his head and neck. The CT showed no active bleed from the fall, but the scan showed spots on his brain, spots on his spine/neck, and a small fracture on his spine
6/3/25 - Due to the spots on his brain and spine, an MRI was completed on 6/2/25, but we received the results today.
MRI results showed a lot of spots on his brain that are cancerous, and a meeting with the radiation oncologist is scheduled -- the radiation oncologist is not going to cure the cancer, but to help with the discomfort from headaches and dizziness, and a consult with palliative care.
Since his diagnosis, Bo has been unable to work at Queen St. Cafe. The financial strain of seeing nephrologists, oncologists, urologists, cardiologists, and emergency teams has taken a significant toll.
We are humbly asking for your help to ease the burden of Bo’s growing medical expenses. Every donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward covering these bills and ensuring Bo gets the care he needs.
UPDATE:
Bo peacefully passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, surrounded by family and friends
On behalf of our entire family, thank you for your kindness, support, and prayers during this time. We are deeply grateful.
With love,
Gwen
