Blue’s Recovery and Care

Hi. My name is Shantel. On Saturday April 4th 2026 our family dog Blue who is 9 years old got hit by a car and the car kept going. The driver didn't even stop to see what they hit or to see if my dog was even okay. Blue suffered wounds to both back legs and a big open gash on his right thigh. He was bleeding all over the car.

We took him to "Animal hospital of Perth Amboy" since that was the closest Vet to us. The experience was horrible. We were told it would be a little wait so we decided to stay since he was in pain and could barely walk. We waited for almost 3 hours. The Dr opened the door to see Blue's condition and felt it wasn't that much of an emergency since there were other people there that had appts for their animal, Mind you Blue had blood all on the floor from his wounds. After the Dr seen all his patients he finally came in to see Blue. All he did was put him on the table to somewhat look at his wounds then said he need X-rays to make sure nothing was broken or fractured because he does not deal with that. He then tells me the cost and I asked about a payment plan and he said No. Also told me if I can't pay for it that he's not going to continue the visit and will not see him. The Dr was completely rude and dismissive. His staff told me about Carecredit I applied and didn't get approved. But I still paid for the visit and the X-rays then that's when he went back in the room with Blue, AFTER the payment was made. They did X-rays without even sedating Blue.

He said blue had no broken bones but he had a fracture in his pelvic on the right side and said he does not do that and that we had to go somewhere where there's an orthopedic Dr. We asked can he at least clean up Blue's wounds and give him stitches since he was still bleeding. The Dr said no and gave us wee wee pads to go. Even when leaving we asked is he at least going to give us any pain meds and antibiotics and he said no.

After that visit we ended up taking him to the Garden State Veterinary Hospital and the service and experience was completely different from the first place we went to. They immediately took Blue in from the car and did an ultrasound to make sure there wasn't any internal bleeding. They gave Blue an IV catheter. Gave him pains meds and antibiotics. I told the Dr the first experience I had and she couldn't believe it and said they should have definitely gave us meds for blue. Also, she said she doesn't even know how they took X-rays without sedating Blue. I showed her the X-rays that I received from the first place and after closely looking at them she discovered Blue have 2 fractures not 1. But the Dr did say they will heal on its own with proper care and medication.

She explained the procedures and price and what's included in the price. I couldn't get approved for 2 of the credit lines they have for animals and the other I only got approved for $1k and everything came up to $1800. He has to go back to the Vet in 2 weeks to take out his sutures and to refill his medications which he needs for the pain and to keep him calm. He has to refill 3 of the 4 medications he is currently taking. He is on strict bed rest for 6-8 weeks. This gofundme is to help take out his sutures in 2 weeks, refill his medications & to do more X-rays. Anyone who knows Blue knows he's a super friendly, loving dog who loves people and children. He's like a big teddy bear. Thank you to anyone who can donate. No donation is too little, everything is appreciated.
