I am creating this GoFundMe for one of my dearest friends Blue Jay Feldman.
This May 2021 Blue, just 50 years old, was diagnosed with the terrifying neurodegenerative disease: ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Blue was an avid softball player; winning multiple Softball championships in Orinda and San Francisco Leagues. Blue loves to ski, ride motorbikes and cause mayhem in the funnest way! He is my go to neighbor should I have a project I need help with, or to borrow any kind of power tool.
Blue noticed a couple summers ago that he couldn’t lift his arm with his softball glove. His hands felt stiff. Thinking it was old back issues coming back to haunt him, Blue went to see an orthopedic surgeon. Over the next 2 years Blue endured 3 spinal surgeries – none of which helped. His arms and hands have declined rapidly, he can no longer move his arms and has minimal use of his hands.
In desperation Blue consulted with a neurologist at UCSF, who immediately referred him to the ALS Clinic where a diagnosis was made within 48 hours.
Now Blue has had to close his family business of landscaping and fireplace installation that he has run for 18 years primarily in the LAMO area. This leaves the family to just one income. Blue and Julie have lived in Orinda since 2004. They have two children Henry 17 a Junior at Miramonte High school and Ava 20 attending Saint Andrews University in Scotland.
We would like to alleviate some of the costs (it is a lot even with insurance) associated with medical equipment, care he will need moving forward. This will include making their current home ADA accessible for the inevitable wheelchair, hospital bed, ramps, lifts etc.
Let's rally around the family so we can collectively support and love them. Goal here is to assist Blue in his journey and relieve him of some financial stress so he can focus his time on his family.
They are always willing to help someone in need. Now it's our turn to help them. Any little bit counts. Please share and please donate! We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any help.
