Blissful Dance is a new accessible dance company in Calgary, AB. Our mission is to create digital dance classes in cultural dance forms for people who are Deaf, disabled, and over the age of 50 with different mobility needs.
At the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic, Kyra Newton, the founder of Blissful Dance, recognized a need for accessible online dance classes. These classes are needed to support people's physical, mental, and emotional health and to bring joy during these difficult times.
In 2020/21 Blissful dance will:
+ Create 10 accessible dance videos
+ Feature one teacher showing the traditional movements, and two dance demonstrators showing different modified movements to support various mobility needs
+ Feature Bhangra, West African, Flamenco, Hip-hop, and creative movement
+ Include subtitles in French, Spanish, and Mandarin
+ Create an accessible website for people to join a year membership*, a forum discussion page to talk about peoples experiences and to stay connected, and information about each cultural dance form and Blissful's artistic team
+ Create an online community hub
* Year-long membership will include access to ten videos and up to 24 weekly scheduled live-streamed zoom classes.
There will be two membership rates:
1) Individual rate $35/year.
2) Agency rate $200/year, for organizations who support people with disabilities, seniors, or youth, and will also include four private bookings with a Blissful dance teacher.

In fall 2020, Blissful Dance received a grant worth $10,000 from the Calgary Arts Development to support the initial phases of this project. We are so grateful for this funding and appreciate the investment in creating access in the digital art community. While this funding has helped cover some of our start-up costs, we require additional support.
Your donation will contribute to covering the costs of getting this company off the ground. Memberships will continue to support the initiative into 2021 and beyond.
