On July 8th, I received a Facebook message from a nice lady named Maggie who was feeding a stray cat in Newington, CT with badly infected eyes. Maggie asked if I could try to help the poor kitty. I agreed to help and asked if she could take some photos so I could post them and find a rescue to take her in. Maggie sent me excellent pictures which circulated online but unfortunately, no rescue organization came forward to take her case. I did, however, receive a message from another kind stranger named Megan stating that she'd like to help but wasn't sure how. We got chatting and she actually offered to temporarily house the cat AND donate toward the vet bill! BINGO! That gave me the green light I needed to trap the poor kitty. At this point, we started calling the cat Blinky.️

I called to make a standing appointment at Hebron Veterinary Hospital with the hopes I would trap Blinky before the appointment which, luckily, is exactly what ended up happening. I trapped Blinky Thursday morning and brought her to an 11am appt that same day.

Megan, Maggie and I had set the bar low. Our mentality was "hope for the best, plan for the worst". We expected Blinky would be a feral tomcat who would be aggressive and spray. Much to our surprise, we were blessed with a friendly, young, gentle, female sweetheart. Not a mean bone in the little darling's body. She's a perfect little angel. About 18 months. ✨
Blinky is VERY skinny and has several issues going on. In addition to severe conjunctivitis and corneal ulcers, she also has an upper respiratory infection and ulcers on her lips, gums, and roof of her mouth. She also has a painful/swollen sore on her anus which the vet hopes resolves on it's own [could be from chronic diarrhea] but if not, it will require a biopsy, as it could be a mass. Let’s pray it’s not.

During her exam, it was also discovered that the poor young girl is also PREGNANT!!! Unfortunately, due to her level of illness and emaciation, it’s a high risk pregnancy and we're unsure how healthy the babies will be. Thank GOODNESS we got her when we did. Can you imagine if she gave birth in her (rapidly deteriorating) condition outside? Mom and babies likely all would’ve died.
When we got home from the vet, Megan and I gave her a bath. Again, to our surprise, she didn't mind at all. She actually found it soothing and fell asleep in the bath. She knew she was finally safe.

Blinky's been doing GREAT in her foster home with Megan and becoming more socialized every day. She eats like a CHAMP (her favorite is Sheba kitten food which the vet recommended for extra nutrients- we’d LOVE donations of that!). She's using her litter box and loves to be held/cuddled. Megan has NO issue doing any of Blinky's meds (and there are 6 so far!). Blinky already looks like a whole new cat. Her eyes are massively improved and her weight is increasing! We see improvement every day.

After a few tough cases recently, I'm relieved to say that Blinky will make a full recovery. But she needs follow-up care that isn’t going to be cheap. I really need the community to rally around this sweet girl to help her heal! It takes a village.

An account at Hebron Veterinary Hospital has been set up for Blinky under "Leo's Love and Legacy". Please feel free to call donations in to them directly; they can accept them prior to OR after the appointment!

Blinky's follow-up visit is already scheduled for 7/29 at 2:30pm and donations can be called in ahead of time! We are still out $-213.10 from her last appt so we really need her next bills fully covered!
**I am not a 501c3 (yet) and have no grants, funding, or any support other than individuals like you. I do this out of pocket to save these deserving little souls and I hope you join me in this cause. I do it all in honor of my own cat who passed away recently.
