Support Blind Students' Camp Adventure

Hi! My name is Scarlett Kelly and I am an Orientation and Mobility Specialist in Oakland, CA. Basically what I do is to help students that are blind or have low vision get around their environment safely and independently and can include skills such as how to use a long cane, low vision devices, and electronic travel aids when appropriate, and how to orient oneself to new environments. I also teach students how to navigate public transportation systems, how to cross streets safely, and traveling by using hearing, remaining vision, and other senses.
Another important part of my job is to provide opportunities for blind and low vision students to explore various types of recreation and leisure! Every year we take our students for a weekend to a camp in Napa that is specifically dedicated to doing just that. That camp is called Enchanted Hills Camp for the Blind and it is such an invaluable resource for the blind community and their families.
Unfortunately, the experience is not free, BUT the camp is working with us to provide a reduced rate. We are humbly asking for $1,500 to cover the cost of lodging, activities, and snacks for 10 students and 5 adult chaperones.
Thank you so much in advance on behalf of the Visual Impairment team at Oakland Unified School District! Every little bit helps.
Big Love,
Scarlett Kelly
