My name is Alayne and Blanca Maricela Hernández is a client of our Partners in Well-Being project and now a friend. Blanca, a Guatemalan farmworker and single mother to an 7 year old boy, is the most resilient person I know.

On September 2025, the ongoing nausea and pain in her head and throughout her body overwhelmed her and she finally went to the ER in Riverview FL. Having been misdiagnosed for years as gastritis and other things, the medical staff soon realized she had a brain tumor.

Blanca was finally released from the hospital in November and she has been recovering from this tumor, learned to walk again and regained her speech, which had been affected by the tumor. However she has a long way to go and this will be expensive.

While the surgery was a complete success in terms of removing what turned out to be a tumor the size of an orange, Blanca's left eye was left paralyzed from the surgery. We are trying to save this eye now. She has double vision and the eye is swollen so it is impossibly painful for her to close the eye, which is subject to infection. She just got a prescription for eye salve to lessen her ongoing pain.

Blanca's insurance does not cover therapies, transportation or some of these medications. Further she may need surgery.

Despite impaired vision, Blanca has been trying to work in the fields. She is not fully recovered from the tumor yet either so we need to help her afford her rent and food for her small family while she recovers. She would never ask for help so this is why I have created this GFM.

Blanca needs to pay bills that she has incurred over the past five months of hospitalization and recovery in the amount of $1500.

She also needs help with her rent and food for the next few months so she can focus on her recovery and not farmwork (which we know is high-risk and filled with carcinogenic chemicals).

On behalf of Blanca and her son and everyone who loves her, we would be very grateful for any help you could give them towards a goal of $5000.

Hola me llamo (a-len o Alayne) y la sra Blanca Maricela Hernández ha sido cliente de Proyecto Bienestar y ahora es una amiga. Blanca, trabaja en el campo y es de Guatemala, viviendo acá en Florida con su hijo de 7 años. Es madre soltera y una de las personas más fuertes que he conocido en mi vida.

BLanca ha sufrido por años de dolores de cabeza, náuseas y por fin ese dolor llegó a un punto que tuvo que ir a la sala de emergencia en septiembre del 2025.

Otros médicos en la clínica de suncoast la habían diagnosticada con gastritis pero muy pronto en el hospital descubrieron un tumor en su cerebro. Lo removieron en octubre y ha estado sanándose con la ayuda de sus amistades y comunidad.

En noviembre el hospital le dio de alta y Blanca ha estado recuperando su capacidad de caminar, hablar y regresar a una vida más normal. Pero el tumor la dejó con otros problemas. Blanca todavía tiene problemas de la vista y lastimosamente el

ojo está muy hinchado y dañado. Ahora estoy llevándola a citas médicas para salvar a su oyó en el Instituto del Ojo en la USF.

En fin, la cirugía fue todo un éxito en que pudieron sacar todo el tumor que midió como una naranja, pero su ojo izquierdo quedó paralizado por la cirugía y dejó que tiene vista doble. Ahora estamos tratando de salvar este ojo cual acaban de descubrir está muy hinchado y por eso no cierre, es muy doloroso y hay alta probabilidad de infección. Así que necesitará bastante tiempo y quizás otros tipos de intervenciones para poder recuperar la vista. Ahora le dieron recetas para medicinas especiales para el ojo.

el seguro que tiene Blanca no cubre sus terapias, transporte a las citas médicas en Tampa o algunos medicamentos. Como tampoco sabemos todavía si va a necesitar cirugía en el ojo.

A pesar de que Blanca tiene la vista doble y borrosa, ha estado buscando trabajo en el campo. Todavia se está sanando del tumor y necesita ayuda con la renta, comida para ella y su hijo mientras recupere.

No es solo eso pero Blanca también tiene que pagar unas deudas de los últimos 5 meses de estar en el hospital y su recuperación, lo cual es alrededor de $1500.

Ahora también ella y su hijo tienen que pagar renta y comida para que pueda seguir sanándose y no trabajando en los campos que están llenos de químicas y riesgos para su salud.
