As many may know or not, the past 2 years for my dad, Blake Honeycutt, have been full of medical diagnoses, hospital stays, and bills.
It all started with him being diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer, needing to have his prostate removed and surrounding lymph nodes, and going through 42 weeks of radiation to attack his aggressive cancer. His blood work since has been great, praise the Lord! Following the treatments, Dad ended up having some heart issues and blockages, so they placed a stent in and started him on blood thinners. A few months passed, and he began to have pain in his hip that would come and go, but then it stayed. After many months of severe pain, ending up not being able to walk without a walker to just staying home, they found that the aggressive radiation destroyed his hip, and it was bone on bone. The doctor said his leg is just basically hanging there. He had to wait to undergo a complete hip replacement because of being on the blood thinners. He finally was able to receive the replacement and underwent many weeks of rehabilitation. He was able to go back to work and do light jobs.
Fast forward to now! He stopped being able to go number two for about a week and started having severe stomach pain. He was put into the hospital where they found he had developed acute diverticulitis. He was very weak and very sick. His oxygen began to drop, and they found out on top of the acute diverticulitis, his chest was full of infection leading to pneumonia. His d-dimer was off the charts, so they now needed to find why. They discovered a blood clot in his back near his spine and under his kidney, also finding an aneurysm close by. He has been on strong antibiotics to kill all the infection on the inside (which was A LOT)! They found an abscess on his colon that needed to be drained. After draining, he continued to get worse. Scans were worse, so the surgeon said we need to do emergency surgery to see what is going on.
They took him back, and about four hours later, the surgeon came out and said that Dad's colon had ruptured and was leaking in his body, causing the extreme infection. He was able to cut out the bad part and sew it up, but Dad would have to wear a colostomy bag for 6 to 8 months to recover. They sent off the piece he cut off for further testing, and we are believing and praying for no further findings in Jesus' name. He has been in Trauma ICU recovering and was moved to a recovery room today.
Needless to say, Daddy has been through a lot and is tired! With all the issues that have arisen, my parents' medical bills are great, and they don't even know what this one will look like yet.
We ask most of all, our friends and family, please pray! Pray that this will be a smooth 6-8 month recovery and pray nothing will be found. If you are able to help financially during this time, our family would greatly appreciate it. It has been stressful these past two years with Dad's health, and I would love to help ease the worry and stress by helping with the bills. My Daddy has always been a hard-working man who, even when his hip needed to be replaced, went to jobs on a walker. He is one of the hardest working men I have ever known.
Please consider helping during this time! We love and appreciate all of you!
