Support Blair, Rachel, and Baby Jacobson

Blair and Rachel have been dear friends of ours for over ten years. Last fall, we were thrilled for them when they shared the news that they are expecting their long-awaited baby. I am launching this go-fund-me to cover the extensive medical costs for both Rachel and baby as they experienced an unexpected and scary turn of events in their pregnancy a few weeks ago; as well as extra care for the family once Rachel and baby are discharged from hospital. For many years prior to this pregnancy, Rachel and Blair navigated the complex world of infertility. After an early miscarriage, an IVF cycle, and numerous procedures they were thrilled to be expecting. On February 10, Rachel's water unexpectedly broke at 27 weeks pregnant and she was diagnosed with PPROM (premature rupture of membranes).

After being admitted to Silverton Hospital, Rachel was transported to Randall Children’s Hospital Family Birth Center, equipped for treating high-risk pregnancies with a Level 4 NICU. Blair and Rachel waited out the first 48 hours under the careful monitoring of doctors, the most crucial time following PPROM when 50% of women give birth. It's been three weeks since Rachel was initially admitted to Randalls, where she’ll stay for the remainder of her pregnancy. Rachel’s perinatologists would like to see her make it to at least 34 or 35 weeks.

Blair and Rachel have met with a NICU nurse and though the prognosis is good for infants born after 28 weeks gestation, there are still many unknowns as they anticipate a NICU stay for the baby following birth and navigate the uncertainty that comes with a preterm delivery.
