Our neighbor Gelber was driving along University Blvd on Sunday, Jan 11, and was boxed in by masked ICE agents at Four Corners. They grabbed him from his car when he couldn’t show an ID and threw him into their vehicles, leaving him with bruises. His college-aged son was also accosted but let go when he showed his ID. Gelber was sent to Baltimore and then moved to a Louisiana detention center. The family quickly scrambled to find lawyers to help free him instead of deport him. The ICE thugs told Gelber that he looked Hispanic, which is why they stopped him. This kind of profiling and detention is illegal, but Gelber has no chance of returning to his family unless lawyers take his case.

Law firms, even the honest ones, cost money. The law firm has begun legal procedures to free Gelber, but his family needs to pay the law firm $11,000 by mid-February to continue the case. Only one son of three has a job, and his wife is unemployed. They have a 17-year-old son who is a senior at Blair HS and a son studying at Salisbury U. And the construction crew of 8 that Gelber leads will all be out of work because no one has his skills to handle the forklift and trusses.

Fighting detention takes time and money.

To have justice for Gelber and a life without fear for him and his family, he and his family need $11,000 to pay the lawyers to work to free him.
