Blaine is 27 years old. On May 26, 2025, Blaine had a motorcycle accident that left him with TBI (traumatic brain injury) and a spinal injury. The accident caused multiple brain hemorrhages, contusions, and a mild brain shift, as well as fractures in his cervical spine (C5–C7) and upper back (T1–T3). These injuries led to emergency intubation, a ventricular catheter to manage brain pressure, and spinal fusion surgery with 12 screws and 2 rods to stabilize his neck. Blaine spent weeks in a vegetative state, reliant on a ventilator, feeding tube, and tracheostomy, fighting for every breath and moment of hope.

He was then transferred to an acute hospital, where they were able to successfully wean Blaine off the ventilator.

Our hope was for Blaine to go to Shirley Ryan Rehab in Chicago for their Disorders of Consciousness program, but it is not covered by his insurance. We were given the option to send him to a nursing home with no rehab or bring him home and get limited in-home rehab services. We opted to bring Blaine home instead of letting him further deteriorate in a nursing home.

I am a single mom, and as Blaine’s 24-hour caregiver, I manage his therapies, feedings, and medical needs, but the costs are overwhelming. Insurance limitations have denied him access to specialized disorders of consciousness programs, forcing us to bring him home with in-home therapy.

I have had only one check since his accident, and thankfully had reserves that got us through until now, but with so many extra expenses and more time out of work, I must reach out for help.

Your donation, no matter the size, will help Blaine continue his “TBI Journey” toward greater awareness and independence. Funds will ensure he receives the therapies and equipment needed to maximize his recovery, giving him a chance to communicate, move, and reconnect with life. Please share Blaine’s story on social media and join our “Blaine’s TBI Journey” Facebook page for updates on his progress. Together, we can support Blaine’s fight and show him he’s not alone. Thank you for your generosity and love.

With gratitude,
