Hey there!
My name is Blaine DeBerry. I am a theatre artist based in Coral Springs, FL with a deep belief in the power of storytelling as a tool for teaching empathy. It is this philosophy that is imbued in my work, especially as a teaching artist and director at BARCLAY Performing Arts in Boca Raton.
While I was perusing my BFA in Theatre Performance at Florida Atlantic University, I had the honor of earning my pass with recommendation in Unarmed Stage Combat with Society of American Fight Directors. This certification verifies my proficiency and ability within the weapon, lasts up to three years, and in May of this year expired.
I am asking for donations to help fund my re-certification process and participation in the Fight Directors Intensive at the Summer Sling Stunt and Stage Combat Workshop taking place in New York City. Recertification would afford me a tangible marketable skill on my resumé to bring to auditions. The intensive - a rigorous four days of classes and workshops that only those who applied and were accepted can participate in - would give access to impeccable education from incredible instructors that I will be able to bring home to my students and future productions I work on. I strongly believe that I will grow immensely as an artist by taking part in this program.
Here is an estimated breakdown of my costs:
- Registration for the Intensive and Re-certification Process: $300 (originally $600, but reduced thanks to an incredibly generous donation from my home away from home, BARCLAY Performing Arts!)
- Airline transportation to and from NYC: $200
- Metro transportation once in NYC: $35
- Food: $300
Total Cost: $835
Wanna know what your donation will help to create? Here is an example of my fight direction and stage combat skills in action from a project I worked on this past spring: Evil Dead The Musical !
Please help me continue to grow my craft.
Thank you so much!
