Support Blaer’s Fight Against Epilepsy

I have made a GoFundMe before that wasn’t extremely successful but before I do anything else, I’d like to thank everyone who did donate and let you know it was so greatly appreciated. Sincerely. I stopped the last one because I received a lot of negativity about creating one and I’m not sure why but I decided that it’s more important to me to help someone I love and advocate for others who may have the same issues. Your voice is important.

My name is Kim and my boyfriend of two years is Blaer. Before his epilepsy diagnosis over 7 years ago, he was a very productive person- received a college degree, worked several great jobs and owned his own home and vehicle. He’s also always been an advocate for others, which he still continues to do to this day.

Developing epilepsy as an adult has changed his life in ways I cannot explain in words well. He continued trying to work despite his seizures but would have them at work and the severity was too much for an employer to allow. He lost his ability to work and his neurologist told him that was something he would not be able to do anymore, nor would he be able to drive. His whole livelihood was just taken from him at once.

He began trying to apply for disability years ago and has since been denied multiple times. His neurologist out of Henry Ford hospital in Michigan has helped throughout this process probably more than she even needs to and still denials. He had a hearing a month ago with a lawyer we maintained and his neurologist also present. Social Security is aware that he is on the highest dosage of 6 different controlled substances to try helping with the seizures. Aware that he has broken teeth, his jaw, his ankle, ribs, vertebrae in his back and his knee as a result of severe seizures. Aware that a year ago he had a vns implant surgically put into his chest and throat to try helping with seizures that has to be changed every two years. Aware that his neurologist prohibits him from working or driving. And last week again - DENIED.

This man wants to work and provide more than any person I know. And can’t. I have to spend a lot of time trying to make him understand that he is wanted and needed in this world because his mental health just continuously deteriorates. And he doesn’t deserve it. He goes above and beyond for others no questions asked, including myself. We are not giving up fighting for disability but right now it’s hard. Our vehicle is down and when we have issues getting medication, the cost is astronomical. I’m currently looking for more income and applying for multiple jobs and I do things daily to make what I can but it’s not always enough. The worst part is I hate leaving him alone but I know it’s necessary for us to survive financially.

I do bake and sell cookies and will continue to do so. I have babysat a few times. I was door dashing until our car broke down and am open to help anyone with pretty much anything. Always open to job opportunities or suggestions! I appreciate any help, donations, or even shares. I limit some details about his health because I don’t want him to feel embarrassed but it’s a tough situation and I hope anyone dealing with this has relief and knows that we understand.

God bless
