We are the Mabry family, and we love playing board games together. It all started when a friend gave us Zombie Dice as a gift and then invited us to play King of Tokyo, and from there we were hooked.
Since then, we’ve collected more and more games, attended game conventions, and connected with others who share our love for games. And on September 24, 2019, we opened our very own game store, Blackrowan Games. We are proud to be the first board game store to ever open in Tracy, California, a city of over 90,000 in the northern California Central Valley.
It’s our passion to share amazing games with everyone and to create a community gathering place, which is why our tagline is “Games to Bring Family, Friends, and Community Together.” We are proud that in just 6 short months, we have had a hand in building a community of friends who have visited, played, and supported our store and each other.
Then the coronavirus hit. People stopped coming to gather at our store, and we experienced a drastic drop in sales, starting in early March 2020. This would be crippling for any business, but for us, we had recently invested our life savings and felt like we were watching our dream die. In response to state orders, we closed our store to the public on March 20. 2020.
As any entrepreneur must do, we adapted. On March 25, we launched our webstore with local home porch delivery, and we have been overwhelmed by the support of our beloved Tracy community. Unfortunately, while we are making some sales, we are not able to cover all of our bills at this time. Our landlords have generously given us a grace period to pay rent, but they are a family business, too. We don’t want them to suffer either.
Please donate as you feel led. All proceeds will be used to cover rent and expenses, and we are not taking any disbursements or salary from the business. Our main goal is to survive so that we can once again be a gathering place for our community when the time is right.
Humbly,
The Mabry Family
