My name is Shanice Wilcox, and I’m a writer and film director based in the Tri-State area. My journey into film began with a love for storytelling that was nurtured through journaling, poetry, and theater during my teenage years. After earning a degree in Digital Film from Westchester Community College, I realized there was a gap in the industry—stories like mine, about Black and brown love, friendship, and identity, weren’t being told with depth or authenticity. So I decided to tell them myself.
In 2020, I founded GurrlTalk LLC to create space for underrepresented voices, especially Black women and creatives of color, both on screen and behind the camera. My first two short films were entirely self-funded and filmed with local talent. They now live on YouTube with over 8.5k combined views—a testament to the power of community and purpose-driven art.
My latest project, Really, is a fresh, heartfelt romantic comedy that blends sharp humor with an honest look at modern relationships. It’s a passion project with a bold mission: to normalize joy, vulnerability, and healing in communities that rarely see themselves reflected this way in media. We begin pre-production in July and plan to complete post-production by August.
As a creative entrepreneur, I’ve worn every hat—writer, director, editor, fundraiser—and I do it because I believe stories can change culture. I built this business from the ground up not just to make films, but to make space. GurrlTalk is more than a brand—it’s a movement rooted in voice, visibility, and representation.
