Support Black Trans Students' Education

In 2020, a spark ignited a movement. The Frances Thompson Education Foundation was born out of a small fundraiser that aimed to collect $60,000. Our mission was to honor the life and legacy of Frances Thompson, a Black trans woman who fought tirelessly for her community.

As we grew, we recognized the importance of solidifying our mission and clarifying who we serve. To do this, we transitioned our name to the Transgender Education Foundation (TEF). In honor of Frances, the scholarship program carries her name, serving as a reminder of the resilience and strength that is the backbone of our foundation.

With your generosity, we have flourished, becoming a beacon of hope, empowerment, and support for over 50 Black trans students in the past three years. We've managed to disburse over $120,000 directly, touching the lives of these brave individuals as they navigate through their educational paths.

However, the path hasn't been smooth. Over the past year, individual giving has slowed down significantly. The shortcoming in funds has forced our dedicated program staff to contribute from their own pockets to keep our mission alive. Despite the financial strain, we have not wavered in our commitment to these students.

Today, we stand at a crossroads. Our spring Frances Thompson scholarships and services are currently on hold due to a lack of funding. We have a cohort of 10 Black trans students, each unique and with dreams spanning various demographics, trades, and degrees, eagerly waiting for our support.

Adding to this urgency is the rise of anti-trans bills across various states. These unjust legislations directly threaten our students and applicants, intensifying their need for our support.

We call upon your kindness and solidarity to help us raise $100,000. This fund will be allocated as follows:

- $40,000 to the Frances Thompson student scholarships
- $40,000 to our program costs
- $20,000 to expand our services to reach more trans students

By donating, you not only become a torchbearer, lighting the path for these students to realize their dreams and live their truth, but your contribution is also tax-deductible, thanks to our fiscal sponsor and GoFundMe's nonprofit fundraising platform.

Together, we can create a world where everyone has an equal chance of education and a fulfilling life, regardless of their gender identity.

Thank you for your unwavering support.
