In many parts of the world, Black LGBTQ+ individuals face unimaginable challenges, from discrimination and violence to legal persecution, societal exclusion, and family rejection. For some, being true to themselves means risking their safety, and escaping to a new country is the only way to live freely.
Black LGBTQ+ immigrants face barriers on multiple fronts: discrimination based on race, sexual orientation, gender identity, and immigration status. Without reliable support systems, many struggle with finding stable housing, securing employment, and accessing healthcare.
Our new nonprofit, Black Diaspora Liberty Initiative (www.bdlinitiative.org), was created to change this. Our mission is to advocate for the rights and well-being of Black LGBTQ+ immigrants, by fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where all individuals not only survive but thrive.
Your donation will go towards:
Providing mental health resources to Black LGBTQ+ immigrants struggling with displacement, isolation, and trauma.
Launching advocacy initiatives to champion immigrant LGBTQ+ rights within our local communities and beyond.
Creating support groups, hotlines, and online forums specifically tailored to the needs of Black LGBTQ+ immigrants, offering a safe space for them to share experiences and provide mutual support.
Providing vital assistance to those currently detained in U.S. immigration detention centers, such as legal assistance/representation, commissary support, visitation, letter writing, and work to secure release.
Supporting Black LGBTQ+ migrants with asylum and work authorization applications.
Roundtrip Metrocards/MARTA Cards for members.
Your contribution to BDLI is more than just a donation, it’s an investment in the future of Black LGBTQ+ immigrants who deserve a life free from fear. Together, we can create a world where everyone feels at home, valued, and safe.
Thank you for your support and belief in this vision.
