For those of you who know me, you know I do everything and anything for my animals. This morning, I went out to feed, and Black Jack could barely breathe; his face is completely swollen. They did a tracheotomy to save him from suffocation. They did X-rays to see if he broke anything (nothing obvious there, thank God). We're trying to rule out a rattlesnake bite. It's just hard to think snake bite in the middle of winter. They're putting an IV in him to keep him hydrated since he cannot eat or drink. He will have to stay here at Pioneer Equine for a few days minimum. They're going to try to get the swelling down so they can look into his mouth. There's a possibility that he bit the inside of his mouth due to the swelling. I've had Black Jack since the day he was born. He is going to be 11 this year. He's my baby boy, and my animals always come first. The vet estimated the cost to roughly be around $6,000+ for the care and the medical treatment needed, which could change depending on how the next 24 hours go. If there is any way you can help with the vet bills during this time, so that Black Jack can make a full recovery, I will forever be grateful.
