If you don’t believe life can change in the blink of an eye…you haven’t met BJ and Kelly Sturgeon. On October 13, 2023, BJ left his home and drove down the road to take off the trash. During that short drive, a drunk driver crossed his path and has caused unbelievable devastation to the entire family.

BJ has endured multiple surgeries and is fighting with all he has. BJ’s current state includes…

Crushed ankle

Collapsed lung and chest tube

Abdominal opening due to intestinal surgeries

Damaged gall bladder removed

Feeding tube inserted

Fully sedated to promote rest

Tracheotomy

Damaged pancreas, liver, kidneys

On dialysis

On ventilator

BJ remains in very critical condition and every minute is a gift.

BJ’s wife, Kelly, has not left his side. As of November 3, they have faced 4 weeks of long days and longer nights on the ICU floor. Kelly has faced so much this past year prior to this nightmare. She lost her father, her brother, and her daughter faces her own cancer battle. She is now spending her time in a hospital due to the selfishness of a drunk driver.

Kelly and her family have asked for only ONE THING throughout this ordeal…PRAY WITHOUT CEASING! They have called on friends, family, community members, and strangers to lift BJ’s name up in prayer every second of every day.

We ask you to also lift BJ and his family up in prayer. We know he is going to have an AMAZING TESTIMONY one day but for now he is FIGHTING HARD to get back to his family.

BJ has a long road of recovery ahead of him. He could be facing over a year of recovery and therapy to regain any normalcy of his life. I am Laura Bracey and I have known this family since I was a child. I went to school with Kelly’s sister and now sing in our church’s praise band with Kelly’s mother.
