We are reaching out today with heavy hearts to ask for support for our beloved friend, Bishop Hall, who has recently received a devastating diagnosis: Fatal Familial Insomnia (FFI).
This is a rare and aggressive prion disease—a true medical nightmare—that is currently incurable. The name, while descriptive, doesn't fully capture the horror of the condition.
Understanding Fatal Familial Insomnia (FFI)
FFI is an incredibly cruel disease that directly impacts the thalamus, the part of the brain responsible for regulating sleep and sensory functions.
The Nature of the Illness: FFI progressively destroys the ability to sleep, leading to a state of complete, unyielding insomnia. As the disease advances, the patient experiences rapid deterioration, including:
- Profound mental decline and hallucinations.
- Loss of motor function and coordination.
- Eventually, coma and death.
As there is currently no cure supporting Bishop’s comfort, care, and quality of life are of paramount importance.
His Immediate Needs: Financial and Spiritual Support
