On June 27th, 2025 Birgitte received some life changing results that no one ever wants to hear - breast cancer. She recently had found a lump in her right breast that was biopsied. Her pathology came back as Grade 3 Triple Positive Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. Her team at Ridgeview-Waconia quickly got to work on developing a plan to kick this beast! She had a PET scan completed on July 7th which did reveal a few questionable lymph nodes, so those were biopsied and results are pending at this time. There is also a spot on her sternum that they did additional imaging on as well...we are all praying the cancer has not metastasized! She got her port placed and will begin chemotherapy treatments on July 21st. Her treatments will happen every 21 days and she has to complete between 6-8 cycles total. She has already met with a surgeon and once chemo is complete and she's recovered from that, they will look at surgical options. She has been told to expect a minimum of 4 months of chemo treatments plus the surgical portion after treatments wrap up. There is also a potential for needing radiation.

Birgitte has a long journey ahead of her but she remains SO brave and positive - no surprise there! Thankfully her team is optimistic and confident that they'll be able to treat this and find that cure we are all praying for.

Throughout Birgitte's cancer journey she will be faced with lots of traveling to/from appointments, missed work time throughout treatment and following surgery, and medical bills along with her regular monthly expenses. The financial burden with all of this is one thing I hope to help alleviate. Birgitte is one of the strongest people I know and she's always been there to give love and support to others when needed. 7/11 UPDATE: Birgitte’s lymph node biopsies came back benign! The area on her sternum is also believed to be benign, but they do plan to do follow up imaging down the road. This is all great news!!
