Dear Friends,

in late August of 2025, our four year old granddaughter, Birdy (Roberta) was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, a rapid growing cancer. A large tumor was discovered near & around her spinal cord. Since then, she has been in and out of a Children’s Hospital in Bangkok. Treatment was started there because she was too ill for the 20+ hour flight to the USA & because Thailand is her home.

So far, she has undergone 5 sessions of chemotherapy that are given during hospitalization. Her stem cells have been drawn & frozen for later transplant and surgery to remove the tumor is scheduled for mid February. Scans have shown that cancer cells are present in her bone marrow. How well the chemotherapy has affected them is now being assessed with the most recent scans. We anticipate that some Radiation will probably be needed for some bone marrow involvement.

All of this care & treatment is extremely expensive. Their insurance pays all but 20% with that left for the parents to pay. They are able to pay these bills because of outside gifts and this GoFundMe campaign. We are trying to anticipate the costs of new procedures, the tumor removal surgery, and the stem cell transplant.

We are so grateful for the generosity we have already experienced. We appreciate your understanding of the importance of your continued lifesaving gifts for Birdy. Hospitals in Thailand are not charitable organizations.

Birdy’s parents, Carlee and Luke have not left her side. Carlee has been working in Thailand as a teacher for six years. Birdy was born in Thailand and was enrolled in preschool where her Mom teaches Art.
