Binta Maina Memorial Scholarship Fund
Our goal: $100,000 to establish a donor-advised scholarship fund supporting girls’ education in Africa and the United States
The Binta Maina Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established in loving memory of Binta Maina, whose life, values, and spirit continue to inspire all who knew her. Her family wanted to create a lasting tribute that would reflect her passion for education and her commitment to empowering young women, particularly those studying in the sciences. This scholarship is dedicated to supporting deserving female students, helping remove financial barriers to education, and creating opportunities that will last a lifetime.
Binta, her mother, and her sister have been sponsoring five students with demonstrated need and commitment to education at Government Secondary School for Girls, Mathora, Magburaka, Sierra Leone. It was Binta's ultimate goal to ensure that these and other students are able to further their education through university. The Binta Maina Memorial Scholarship Fund will expand the opportunity to other students in Sierra Leone and Kenya and through an endowed scholarship at her alma mater, Macalester College, where she was majoring in Neuroscience and Biology with minors in Psychology and History.
Our goal is to establish a scholarship fund that will support numerous students over many years, ensuring that Binta’s memory lives on through the gift of education. By investing in the education of girls and young women, we strengthen families, uplift communities, and help build a brighter future. This scholarship reflects Binta’s legacy and the belief that every girl deserves the chance to learn, grow, and lead. 100% of donations will go directly toward educational support for female students.
Any contribution, no matter the amount, helps keep Binta's memory alive while opening doors for young women for generations to come. If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser is a meaningful way to support this mission. Thank you for honoring Binta by helping us transform remembrance into a lasting opportunity.
