My name is Bil Gardiner and I am a Black, disabled, former Worcester Police Officer seeking justice and your support. For 10 years, I endured relentless bullying and verbal abuse, while working in a hostile work environment within the Worcester Police Department—beginning in the police academy—because I refused to participate in the misconduct that was normalized within the department.
As a result, I suffered from severe emotional and physical trauma, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and chronic gastrointestinal issues. My condition deteriorated to the point where a State Medical Board declared me permanently disabled due to job-related injuries. With no support from my union and misled by a union attorney, I was coerced into signing an agreement that awarded me only 25% of my salary-far less than the 72% I was legally and ethically entitled to.
Today, I live in relative poverty-earning approximately $14,400 a year and my mental health has further declined. I have been fighting two illegal foreclosures on my home for the last 15 years and continue to battle in court with the help of a grassroots anti-foreclosure organization.
Meanwhile, my home is deteriorating around me, and I live in near isolation, struggling daily with anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation.
I firmly believe my civil and human rights have been violated by the City of Worcester. What I experienced is real and I want others to know about it. And I know that I am not alone. I am working with others from Worcester committed to justice, reconciliation, and healing. I believe this fight will require bold, outside-the-box thinking and collaboration, and I want to invite you to be a part of it. To join our coalition click "Contact" near the bottom of the page.
Please join me in our quest for justice. Your support-financial, legal, strategic, or otherwise-could make a real difference in my life and give me and many others the hope and courage to fight for ourselves. My supporters have put together a GoFundMe page to help me with needed home restoration projects before winter sets in and help with monthly expenses as I go through these dire times.
