Help Save Billy – A Fighter Who Needs a Little Help
Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out with a heavy heart and a lot of hope. Yesterday evening, my 21-year-old horse, Billy, colicked unexpectedly. At first, it appeared to be a gas colic—he was tubed with fluids, given Banamine, and we hoped for the best. But things quickly took a turn. When Billy continued to show signs of distress, we made the decision to send him to New Bolton for overnight monitoring.
Once there, the team discovered a fecalith causing an impaction in his small intestine, which had also enlarged his small colon. He was immediately started on IV fluids, a lidocaine drip, and dextrose. By 1 AM, Billy colicked again—this time his large colon was affected too. We’re now in a critical window, waiting to see if he can pass this on his own or if surgery will be needed.
Billy means the world to me. He’s been by my side for multiple years—my partner, my teacher, my heart horse. Watching him go through this is agonizing, but I know he’s a fighter.
As many of you know, the cost of emergency equine care can be overwhelming. I’ve been on clinical rotations for the past 6 weeks and won’t be able to fully return to work until the end of the year, making this situation even harder financially.
If you’re able to donate, it would mean the world to both of us. Every little bit helps. And if you can’t, simply sharing this fundraiser is an incredible act of support.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart—for reading, for caring, and for keeping Billy in your thoughts.
With gratitude,
Hannah
