Support Bill Palmer's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Hi y'all, my name is Amber and I've started this campaign for my dad, Bill Palmer. Asking for help is hard, but we're learning sometimes it is necessary.

On Saturday, July 27th, 2024, I got a call nobody wants to get... my dad had been life-flighted to the hospital. He was trimming some tree branches at home when he unfortunately took about a 10-13ft fall from the ladder, where he was briefly knocked unconscious. After emergency responders arrived, it was determined he would need to be life-flighted down to the Twin Cities from Ogilvie. It was discovered he had broken 2 ribs and 4 vertebrae. All was going "well" until it wasn't... less than 24 hrs in ICU and he suddenly had a sharp, searing pain that turned out to be a rare spinal stroke, and he lost all feeling and mobility from the chest down.

Right now, we're currently trying to get him set up to keep rehabbing and learning how to live his new life. Unfortunately, he has no health insurance and every avenue we've tried, we keep getting turned away. He "makes too much" to qualify for help according to some of the advisors we've talked to. Being as he's an OTR truck driver, he has 0 income now, but they're still using numbers to project what his yearly income will be, and that's what puts him over. He served 9 years in the Army Reserves, even volunteered for deployment (although not selected), and was an instructor for a little bit at Fort Snelling & Fort McCoy. Yet when we reached out to the VA for help, we keep getting met with "sorry, but we can't help."

He has a long road of recovery ahead and the bills are stacking up. If you find it in your heart to donate, it would be so greatly appreciated. All funds raised will go towards getting my dad into rehab, paying off the mountain of medical bills that keep coming in (a month+ stay is not cheap), and just trying to keep a roof over his head (and make it accessible) and life afloat. My dad is a stubborn one and doesn't like to ever ask for help but is always there to help you if you need it and he was able. Now it's our turn to help him. Even if you can't donate, please share, it's a bigger help than you think. Prayers and positive thoughts are very appreciated.

Thank you!
