I applied for my International UCI license today.

If you had told me 8 years ago, while I was back driving an 18-wheeler all up and down the eastern seaboard, that I would be competing in the World Gravel Championships at age 80, there was just no way I would believe you.
If you had told me when I was a 23-year-old, truck-driving rookie on a two-driver rig that never stopped moving over 48 states, that by my 28th birthday I would be racing eight-day 750-mile bicycle races in Ireland and competing in the world road championships, I would have looked at you in total disbelief.
It is like “Déjà vu” all over again.
At 73, I would give myself “regret checks” while soaked in sweat, moving freight around in the back of a 100-degree trailer on a hot summer day. Don’t get me wrong, I was proud of being a truck driver, but I wasn’t thinking much about bike racing in those days.
So, here I am about to turn 80 totally immersed in a training program, while working a full-time job, and attempting to secure sponsors, (soon to be announced) as I chase the long-lost dream of winning a world championship.
Why would I do this? What the hell is going on in my lgoal.that would make me feel the need to take on this goal? Is it ego?
Why did I start a Go Fund Me page. Will this strain some long-standing friendships? What is inspiring me? What if I don’t win? What are my chances? What are the benefits?
Is it the feeling that my whole cycling career has been in vain? What keeps me going each day? Why put the pressure of competition back into play?
In the process of focusing and envisioning while continuing to express gratitude in pursuit of this goal, I will get closer to the person I was meant to be. I am excited to explore the answers and the learning that comes with them, win, lose or podium,

On October 5th I will be competing in the World Gravel Championships 80+ in Belgium and I need your help.
The money raised here will offset a considerable amount of expenses in the form of Travel, Food and Lodging.

I am grateful every day that I have the overall health and soon to be gained fitness to even think about taking on this challenge at age 80.
