Some of you may have heard about the medical issues that have hit our dear friend, Bill Ackerman, unexpectedly. Only two weeks ago, he was busy and making things happen as usual. He injured his foot, and after 5 days, it was not healing as it should. He went to have his foot examined by his primary care physician and was immediately admitted to the hospital. It was discovered that Bill has Type 2 diabetes and had extremely high blood pressure. Unfortunately, the bone of his big toe had become necrotic, and it was determined he must have his big toe amputated as well as additional parts of his foot. The day after surgery, the surgeon advised it would be necessary to remove more of his foot as the deterioration of bone and tissue had continued to progress. Bill underwent a second surgery the following day. After 9 days in the hospital, Bill has been released from the hospital but has twice daily visits from a nurse to tend to his foot. He is also enduring the long road of physical therapy to get him walking and returning to a “normal” routine.
To say the least, this type of unexpected medical emergency could shock anyone’s emotional and financial stability. Although his new employer is supportive, he is not yet eligible for many of the benefits that would normally help during such a crisis. Bill’s multiple surgical expenses, hospital expenses, physical therapy, and ongoing medical expenses are causing additional stress for Bill and his beloved wife, Angie.
Less than a handful of us knew of the struggles Bill was enduring the past few weeks. In normal Bill style, Bill prefers to lift others up and not bother anyone with his own struggles. As Bill says, “This whole experience has been very humbling.” Bill has always been the first to offer help and assistance to many of us within the industry. He has touched many with his knowledge, support, kindness, and generosity. Although Bill is reluctant to ask for assistance, the current financial outlook is grim. I am asking for support from friends and associates to help him through the coming months. All funds are sent directly to Bill and any amount will help lessen the financial burden. Please share this page with your network and help spread the word. Feel free to give now and in the future, as the recovery process will be lengthy. Your continued prayers and support are appreciated.
