Introducing “bike : jamaica”

Jamaica was devastated by the massive force of hurricane Melissa. Immediately following the disaster, the initial hurricane relief response was very strong, but the road to recovery is still an ongoing process. The island has come a long way, but still has a long way to go.

“bike : jamaica” is a ride to honor & support the victims of the hurricane. Over the course of 4 days we are riding 450 miles around the island of Jamaica to raise awareness & money for the communities still impacted by the hurricane damage.

The goal is to continue supporting the people of Jamaica in need while continuing to pick up the pieces.

If you wish to support the hurricane recovery efforts in Jamaica, you are welcome & encouraged to donate. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the Rockhouse Foundation located in western Jamaica.

About the Rockhouse Foundation
Hurricane Melissa brought devastating winds and flooding to Western Jamaica. Savanna-la-Mar — the parish capital and home to The Sav Inclusive School — was hit hard. The storm made landfall less than ten miles from our campus. Roofs were torn off, classrooms flooded, therapy rooms and learning materials destroyed, and our grounds left badly damaged. Many of our teachers and families live in the surrounding community and suffered even greater loss.

The Rockhouse Foundation is provide direct support to rebuild the Sav Inclusive School and to help the students, families, and teachers most affected by the storm. We are rebuilding houses and supporting our community.

The Sav Inclusive School is a public school built from the ground up by the Rockhouse Foundation where children with disabilities and without learn side by side in a full inclusion setting. It currently has 275 students from ages 3 to grade 7.

For more than 20 years, the Rockhouse Foundation has been transforming education in Western Jamaica — investing over US $12 million to build schools and strengthen communities. Now, as our neighbors face this devastating aftermath, we’re asking for your help. Every act of kindness brings us closer to reopening our doors and continuing to change young lives through inclusion, love, and learning.

The Rockhouse Foundation is a registered Jamaican charity and a New York–based 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
