Big Heart Theater: Give Adults With Disabilities a Voice
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Lisa Lee Schmidt!
Our new nonprofit theater is unlike any theater you’ve seen before.
Fifteen years ago, Sue Ringle changed my life — and the lives of so many others — when she asked me to create a theater program for adults with disabilities at Highland Park United Methodist Church.
Since then, the program has been a huge success. It has enriched and transformed the lives of participants and audience members alike. It’s even the subject of an award-winning documentary film seen around the world.
We’re raising funds to expand this amazing program. We want to serve adults aged 18+ throughout all of DFW who have autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, or any other intellectual or developmental disability. The program is free and performers don’t need any experience.
Our musical plays are created and performed by our participants. Adults with cognitive disabilities are too often invisible, but their big hearts have much to say about life, love, kindness and so much more.
Your donation will help Big Heart Theater reach way more people. Our first production will be at the Pleasant Grove library on Sept. 14. Right now we’re recruiting people with disabilities in South Dallas who have little to no opportunity for creative expression, much less theater.
The money we raise will go toward sets, costumes, props, and other production expenses.
YOU can help give adults with disabilities a voice!
